Project Governance Workshops
As the need to transform the public sector continues to increase, more and more staff who work in front line services are finding themselves members of Project Teams with responsibility for identifying and implementing new ways of working. Having received no training in the principles of project management and being generally unfamiliar with the concept of governance, uncertainty over their role can contribute to a lack of engagement in the project implementation process. The end result can be a project which does not receive the level of input necessary at the point at which it really needs it: Where the new service will be delivered.
But with so many staff being involved in project delivery and resources being scarce, organisations cannot afford to provide project management training to everyone. That's why at AGS we are developing an hour long workshop designed to provide staff with no experience of project governance some basic training in project management techniques. We believe that if staff are equipped with a basic knowledge of where projects can go wrong and the controls that need to be put in place to avoid these pitfalls, the chances of a successful project implementation increase.
The workshop will highlight key areas of risk when working as part of a Project Team and offer practical suggestions on how these can be managed. We’ll review some of the key aspects of the PRINCE2 methodology of project management and consider how these can be applied to the types of service transformation projects that are being implemented throughout the public sector.
